World Poker Tour Announces Morocco Event

Wednesday, March 04, 2009

MARRAKECH, Morocco -- and WPT Enterprises announced today that they have finalized an exclusive partnership to launch the first ever World Poker Tour® (WPT) event to
take place on the African continent—WPT Marrakech. The three-year deal enables the partners to create annual televised broadcasts around the events. The first WPT Main Event will take place in October while several satellite tournaments on Chilipoker and other rooms of the Ipoker network are authorized to qualify players online as soon as March.

WPT Marrakech will be held in the famous Casino de Marrakech, Morocco's casino gem since 1952 and currently the organizer of the Marrakech Poker Open with the Es Saadi Gardens & Resort's palace and five star hotel. The leading Moroccan tourist town proved to be an ideal location to attract the best players from Europe and the world over: the city's proximity to Europe, its abundance of accommodations, and its status as a glamorous destination that is increasingly active on an international level. Chilipoker will take advantage of the city's draw to organize additional events, including a Ladies tournament alongside the Main Event.

"Chilipoker is delighted to be associated with a world-renowned brand like the World Poker Tour in the creation of this unique and attractive event. With the creation of WPT Marrakech, Chilipoker also intends to emphasize Marrakech's attributes as a highly desirable destination for European and African poker players," says Alexandre Dreyfus, Chilipoker CEO.

"We're very glad to be partnering with our friends at Chilipoker—a poker room that is steadily growing in importance on the international scene—to offer WPT tournaments in Morocco," said Steve Lipscomb, WPT Founder, President and CEO. "Our goal is to bring value to our partners and WPTE shareholders as we expand our global footprint."

Thanks to the unique quality of this event, the WPT Marrakech will benefit from abundant media coverage of all kinds and will be able to accommodate dozens of journalists in its pressroom on site for direct coverage of the event. Press interested in covering the event may contact Chilipoker's Press Relations.
