by Ed Miller
Book Picture
Recently, countless people have started playing poker, hoping to quit their jobs and strike it rich. Sadly, most of these 'professional' players will wind up broke. In this book, noted poker authority Ed Miller who made the leap from beginner to professional in less than a year and a half, guides you onto the winning path. He presents the critical principles that expert players use: preflop hand valuation, domination, betting for value, protecting your hand, semi-bluffing, pot equity, pot odds, implied odds, free card plays, the importance of stack size, why chips change value in tournaments, and much more. Whether you want to play limit, no limit, or tournament hold 'em, this book provides you a solid foundation.

World Poker Tour Returns to Fallsview Casino Resort

Wednesday, August 15, 2007
NIAGARA FALLS, ON  -- Texas Hold 'Em players looking to compete against the giants of the game are already flocking to the poker room at Fallsview Casino Resort to take part in satellite tournamentsNiagara Fallsview Casino Resort

hoping to win a seat in the World Poker Tour's (WPT) 2007 North American Poker Championship.

The North American Poker Championship - the only Canadian stop on the World Poker Tour - will be held in Fallsview Casino Resort's Grand Hall from October 26 to November 2.

"Given the incredibly positive feedback we got from the players last year, we think we could surpass our 2006 total of 497 players," said Greg Medulun, Director of Communications for Fallsview Casino Resort. "Everyone seemed to love playing in this event, which is exactly what we want to hear since a bigger field means a bigger prize purse."

Players can buy directly into the main event of the North American Poker Championship for $10,300CDN or they can battle their way to the main event through the satellite tournaments, which have entry fees as low as $90 CDN.

"One of the reasons the WPT is so exciting is that amateur players who have been honing their skills in casino poker rooms, in home games and online can earn a shot at playing with the pros by qualifying through the satellite tournaments," said Medulun. "They don't need sponsors or big bank rolls and they don't need to go through a pro draft or catch the eye of a talent scout. If they have the right combination of skill and luck in the satellites, they get to play in the big leagues."

Last year, Oshawa, Canada, resident Soren Turkewitsch entered a satellite at the $90CDN level and went on to win the 2006 North American Poker Championship bracelet along with more than $1 million CDN in cash.

Turkewitsch survived a field that included some of the biggest names on the World Poker Tour, including fellow Canadians Daniel "Kid Poker" Negreanu, Gavin Smith and Isabelle "No Mercy" Mercier, as well as Costa Rican Humberto Brenes, Spaniard Carlos Mortenson, American John Juanda and Dan Harrington, a true poker legend and the author of the Harrington on Hold 'Em series of poker 'How To' books.

The 2006 North American Poker Championship was the first WPT event ever held in Canada.
