Smarter Bet Guide to Craps
by Basil Nestor
Book Picture
Some craps bets are good, some are not-so-good, and some are for suckers. The Smarter Bet Guide to Craps separates the best from the rest, and makes craps easy to learn. Everything is here in a clear-cut format: Table layout, dice-shooting techniques, a detailed analysis of every craps bet, and mathematically proven strategies that help lower the casino's advantage. A good basic guide to the game for players who are just starting out.

Craps Bankroll Management

You need at least 50 bets to play a table game for a full three-hour session. When calculating the size of your bankroll, also keep in mind that an average bet is not necessarily the lowest bet.

ThisBasil NestorBasil Nestor is the author of the new Playboy Complete Guide to Casino Gambling. This wonderful book teaches players how to avoid sucker bets and win more when playing gambling games.  He is also the author of The Smarter Bet Guide series for video poker, slots, craps, and many other books about gambling.  Basil's website is www.smarterbet.com  absolutely applies to craps. If the minimum bet is $10, then a pass-line bet with triple odds and two come bets with triple odds will require $120 on the table. All that money can disappear with one roll of 7. So a bankroll of $500 ($10 x 50 bets) can be overwhelmed quickly if the dice turn cold. To stay in the game with $120 on the table you must increase your session bankroll to at least $6,000, or lower the amount of money you’re risking on one shooter. If you choose the latter option, you should decrease odds and decrease the number of bets, or find a table that allows $5 bets.

"My dear Tiberius, We had the same company for supper, except that Vinicius and the elder Silius also came. We gambled like old men all through the meal, both yesterday and today. Anyone who threw the “dog” [a one] or a six, put a silver piece in the pot, one denarius for each of the dice, and anyone who threw Venus won it all." Augustus Caesar, Roman Emperor, in a letter to his adopted son Tiberius.
