along with the proposed financial bailout of the convention center and professional sports stadiums in Indianapolis.
House Bill 1002 would have bailed out Indianapolis' debt-ridden Capital Improvement Board, which operates Lucas Oil Stadium and Conseco Fieldhouse.
A Gary lawmaker indicated he would use the bill as a vehicle to move one of Gary's casino licenses, which in turn would help finance a trauma hospital in that city. Other gambling matters, including a voter referendum on gambling in Fort Wayne, were expected to be added as well.
After several hours of testimony Tuesday, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Crawford, D-Indianapolis, withdrew the bill - one of only three filed during this special session - from consideration, claiming it had become politicized. But the committee planned to meet again at 11 a.m. today to see whether a compromise could be reached..."
