Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway is now open.  a string of delays that have beset the project since its approval five years ago.

"The state Division of Lottery, in a report issued in August, had targeted yesterday as the opening of Empire City at Yonkers Raceway, the largest of eight planned video gaming facilities approved by the state Legislature.

"Timothy Rooney Jr., the track's general counsel and son of owner Timothy Rooney, said the raceway was now shooting for a 'soft opening' Oct. 3, which would see the first 1,871 of 5,500 planned video gaming machines open in the 107-year-old track's renovated clubhouse.
